The Chartered Institute of Building’s annual photography competition has shortlisted 12 entries for a public vote.

Go to artofbuilding.org to pick your favourite by 15 January.

The winner, who receives a £1,500 prize, will be announced on 26 January.

A lonely small pink church” by Rong Xu of Beijing shows a church on a beach in Qinhuangdao, China. “The entire campus and beach was totally locked down due to the Covid-19 restrictions in China,” Rong Xu said, “so it was really rare to get a photo of this famous church without any person in the frame.”
“My own little cosmos within reach” by Pati John of the Netherlands shows the Milky Way seen from a mall. “I discovered this astonishing view looking up while I walked around the mall. It was breathtaking, so I stayed there for a long time with my tripod and ND filter to capture every detail in my long exposure shot.”
