Julian leads an ambitious climate adaptation project, ‘Future climate, future home: adaptive urban design strategies for WA’ with AUDRC partner organisations Development WA, the Department of Communities, the Western Australian Planning Commission, and multiple Local Governments. He has received a stream of awards for his research, including the UWA School of Design’s Mid-Career Research Award,’ in 2023.
He has commercially published six books (with another in press) and 43 journal papers. He has given 73 radio interviews and several television interviews about his research. Moreover, Julian has delivered 156 research-related presentations to State and Local Governments, advocacy groups, community groups and industry groups. This record equates to almost 1.5 monthly public talks over the last decade. He is active on social media and has 3,491 Followers on Linked In. He has also been appointed to the Western Australian State Design Review Panel.
Julian is an awarded teacher and received the UWA School of Design Award for Teaching Excellence in 2022, the Faculty of Arts, Business, Law and Education Excellence in Teaching Award in the category of Research Supervision in 2019 and was nominated for teaching awards in 2018, 2020 and 2023.
