Alongside its devastating human toll, conflict can erase infrastructure and systems in its wake. Rebuilding tends to focus on replacing what was lost, all the while perpetuating carbon-heavy and resource-intensive conventional methods.
But reconstruction can also be a transformative process – when waste and ruins of war become resources for the future, supply chains go local, and recovery becomes part of the climate solution instead of a further cost.
Constructive Voices is partnering with the S3RoU consortium (Safe, Sustainable, and Swift Reconstruction of Ukraine) to explore the possibilities of circular (re)construction, lower carbon alternatives, and the potential of mobile recycling technologies.
S3RoU is an international team of researchers, practitioners, and community partners rethinking how post-crisis rebuilding can become more circular, lower in carbon, and more future-proof.
